The cheapest houses in the world – where & for how much?

Where are the cheapest houses in the world?

Buying a house is not the same as buying a new pair of shoes or a second hand car…or is it?

House prices are usually in the 6 figure range. For many of us buying a house is just an illusive dream. For those who can make it, this is likely going to be the biggest venture in life.

Well, it doesn’t have to be like that.

We set on a quest to find the cheapest houses in the developed world and we were surprised with what we found out.

The US and Europe still have a few unexplored property mines where you can find great renovation projects and even ready to move in properties for the price of a second hand car.

Take for example Detroit in USA, where you can buy a house to renovate for as little as 500 USD… But they will come with some strings attached, like the obligation to renovate them or to occupy them.

In Europe that’s not usually the case; properties are sold as freeholds and clear of any encumbrances with prices starting at 1,000 Euro.

And we are not talking about the start price on a property auction; this is the actual asking price.

So, here is what we found. Most of the properties for 5,000 Euro or less are in Bulgaria.

Some of them won’t even need renovation and could be used as a great holiday retreat. Most of these properties are country houses in good size plots. Many of these houses are very pretty historic buildings that can be renovated and turned into stunning homes.

Here you can find more than 100 of these properties for 5,000 Euro or less.

If your budget if a little bit bigger, your options start to get broader.

You will be able to find houses for 10,000 Euro or less in sunny south Europe, like Portugal, Italy or Spain.

  2. Hi Zeya

cheapest place to buy property is in Pakistan – visa free travel and should cost you no more than a pair of Nike trainers.

  3. Stop asking for information about visas on sites giving information on international property prices!! No one here is going to help you get a visa. You need to look on websites dealing with immigration related issues

  4. I’m looking to find a place in Spain or Italy for less then £2000 without having to spend money on the property buy law or contract. Is that possible??

    1. I like to pay 50 dollars a month for my homes but you cannot find that deal a lot.
